Promoting Hazelnut Protection Mechanization in Liaoning: Aiming for Dual Revenue Streams
Jun 12 , 2024
Tieling, Liaoning has a long history of hazelnut cultivation, earning it the title of "Hazelnut Capital of China." The extensive planting of hazelnut trees in this region is a significant source of income for local farmers. However, many of these trees are grown on hilly terrains, presenting challenges in plant protection due to the lack of available machinery.
High Demand and Digital Farming Exploration
The mechanization and digitization of hillside planting progress slowly, with manual plant protection still being predominant. This method is costly and poses safety risks to workers.
Zhu Youyi, an experienced plant protection specialist in the area, understands the local planting conditions and has faced the challenges of lacking machinery and labor. He decided to pioneer the mechanization of hazelnut cultivation.
From the first time he used an Eavision drone for plant protection on his hazelnut trees, he witnessed its efficiency and effectiveness. His demonstration influenced neighboring hazelnut farmers, leading to a surge in plant protection orders for Zhu Youyi.
Water and Labor Saving, Safe and Efficient
Full Orchard Coverage with Drone Spraying
Zhu Youyi summarized the plant protection plan combining hazelnuts and machinery: the front of hazelnut leaves lacks stomata, which are mostly on the underside. Traditional spraying methods struggle to reach the underside, resulting in poor absorption and effectiveness. Eavision drones' "wind and mist synchronization" effectively delivers the liquid to the underside of the leaves and inside the canopy, ensuring full coverage. The small droplet size of the spray enhances rapid absorption by plants, alleviating concerns about rain.
Earning 40,000 Yuan a Month
Overcoming Difficulties and Racing Against Time
"Wherever there are hazelnuts, that's where I go."
Initial estimates show that spraying hazelnut trees on 100 mu would require 6-7 people a whole day, while using a Eavision drone only takes half a day with one machine, demonstrating significant time savings.
Throughout the entire operation season, Zhu Youyi is busy traveling between various villages and hills, racing against time to secure the best pest control periods for farmers. Despite frequent relocations, he easily achieves an average monthly coverage of 4,000 mu, earning a net monthly income of over 40,000 yuan.
Having been accompanied by hazelnuts in the mountains for many years, hazelnut cultivation is not just a career for Zhu Youyi but a passion. With the combined efforts of Zhu Youyi and Eavision drones, the local hazelnut industry has been revitalized, instilling more ambition in him—helping local farmers increase production and income, reduce costs, and share the benefits of mechanized planting.
